We have completed a roads infrastructure improvement project at A1(M) junction 47 in England for North Yorkshire County Council. As the contractor and the scheme designer alongside supervisor, Aecom, we have delivered the multi-million pound upgrade which will help tackle traffic tailbacks at one of North Yorkshire’s busiest junctions.
Client
North Yorkshire County Council
The Project:
The £10m project at junction 47 (Allerton Park) involved widening three of the four slip roads onto and off the roundabout to increase capacity as well as a number of junction improvements.
As well as widening the slip roads, traffic signals were installed on the roundabout to improve traffic flow. Signals were also be added to the T-junction between the A168 and the A59 a short distance from junction 47 on the York side to benefit drivers turning on to the A59 and improve safety.
The project has been supported by £2.47m from the Government’s Local Growth Fund, secured by York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (Y&NY LEP), along with contributions from North Yorkshire County Council, National Highways and the developer, Forward Investment LLP.
The £10m project involved widening of three of the four slip roads onto and off the roundabout to increase capacity as well as a number of junction improvements.
Since its completion earlier this year it has boosted transport links, reduced journey times and increased road safety.
