This £320 million contract for the design, construction and the 30 year operation and maintenance of the M80 between Stepps and Haggs was awarded to Highway Management (Scotland) Ltd, a joint venture between Bilfinger Berger, Graham Construction and Farrans Construction.

The Project
The scheme started on site in February 2009 and completed October 2013. It can be considered as three distinct sections:
Stepps to Mollinsburn
Approximately 8km diverging from the existing M80 at Stepps, passing through agricultural land to the north of Muirhead, Moodiesburn and Chryston and rejoining the route of the existing A80 at Mollinsburn.
Mollinsburn to Auchenkilns
Approximately 2.7km of upgraded road along the route of the existing A80, extending from Mollinsburn to tie-in to the western side of Auchenkilns Junction.
Auchenkilns to Haggs
Approximately 7.3km of upgraded road extending from the east.
Services & Expertise
The project also involves the construction and improvements of 7 grade separated junctions, 59 structures, demolition of properties and bridges, new access roads and side roads, realignment of existing access roads and side roads. Carriageway drainage was provided including construction of sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS) attenuation ponds and improvements to the remaining A80.
