Herring Bridge Highly Commended at British Construction Industry Awards

10.10.2024

Herring Bridge in Great Yarmouth, which was constructed by BAM Farrans JV for Norfolk County Council, has taken home a highly commended certificate at the prestigious British Construction Industry Awards in the Transport Project of the Year category.

The judges said: “Having a significant place-changing impact for Great Yarmouth by removing HGVs from the town centre. This project didn’t just deliver a landmark structure as we were very impressed by the focus on social value, apprenticeships and engagement with young people as well as providing local employment.”

The British Construction Industry Awards are run in partnership with the Institution of Civil Engineers and New Civil Engineer.

Great Yarmouth’s Third River Crossing, Herring Bridge, is one of Norfolk’s most significant infrastructure projects in recent years. Find out more here.

Farrans was also shortlisted in the Community Impact Initiative of the Year for our social value programme at Gull Wing bridge in Lowestoft.

Congratulations to the winners in both categories.

Gavin Pearson, editor of New Civil Engineer, commented

“The BCIA celebrates the best of the best across the construction and infrastructure industries, not just in what our industry achieves in terms of the projects we deliver, but the incredible vital impact we have on the health, wellbeing and prosperity of communities and the country as a whole. That is the context in which our judges debated and interrogated projects and initiatives that have had a lasting impact on society and they agreed entrants broke new boundaries and reached new heights that other professionals can aspire to and learn from.”
