Installation of fixed span takes place at Govan-Partick Bridge in Glasgow

11.07.2024

The fixed span of the Govan-Partick Bridge on the North bank of the Clyde was installed yesterday, providing a good preview of how the Bridge will look when it opens in early Autumn.

This a Glasgow Region City Deal project, with funding from the Scottish and UK Governments. Farrans is the main contractor on the project for Glasgow City Council.

The £29.5million project includes the construction of a new pedestrian/cycle bridge over the River Clyde between Water Row in Govan and Pointhouse Quay in Partick, re-establishing the historic connection between the areas.

The bridge is significant economically, environmentally and socially through the link it will create between communities, visitor attractions and institutions of national economic importance, and is also a central part of the active travel route between the University of Glasgow’s campus at Gilmorehill and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

David Buchanan, Project Manager for Farrans, said: “We are progressing as planned on Govan to Partick Bridge and this week’s installation is another milestone which will take Glasgow one step closer to establishing a vital connection for the city. Our team has worked hard in preparation for this installation and I’d like to thank them all as well as our client and supply chain who have made it possible. We are now into the final few weeks of the project and looking forward to a great celebration on the opening day.”
