Edinburgh Trams to Newhaven wins Future Places Award at the LGC Awards

19.06.2024

We are delighted that Edinburgh Trams to Newhaven has won the Future Places Award at the LGC Awards.

Working as part of a joint venture, Sacyr, Farrans and Neopul (SFN) delivered the Main Infrastructure & Systems Contract by the City of Edinburgh Council for the Edinburgh Tram York Place to Newhaven project.

The LGC Awards are the biggest and best ceremony recognising the achievements of officers and politicians in local government – and last week’s ceremony was the 28th time the Local Government Chronicle event has been held.

The LGC Awards see entries from council teams across the UK judged by other councils’ senior officers, with the aim being to promote new innovation that can inspire other councils to improve their own services.

Siemen’s Mobility, Morrison’s Utility Services , Turner & Townsend worked alongside SFN to construct the 4.7km route, which has eight tram stops. The new tram route runs from York Place down through Leith Walk, Constitution Street, Ocean Terminal and then finishes at Newhaven.

Not only was it completed on time, but it also stayed within the £207.3 million budget agreed upon by the City of Edinburgh Council. 🙌

And there’s more good news! Edinburgh Trams, the city’s tram operator, had a record-breaking month in August 2023, carrying over 1.2 million passengers. 🎈🚋
