Project Pipeline scoops Pipeline Industries Guild Technology and Projects Award

19.06.2024

Huge congratulations to the team behind Northumbrian Water’s £155m Project Pipeline: County Durham and Tees Valley.

This collaborative group, comprising ourselves and a range of technical partners, has scooped the Large Diameter Pipeline Project Award at the annual Pipeline Industries Guild Technology and Projects Awards.

Along with Farrans and Northumbrian Water, the award recognises the work of our design and delivery partners, Stantec, Mott MacDonald and FT Pipeline Systems Ltd.

In County Durham and Tees Valley, Farrans is improving the underground network of water pipes, installing 34km of new pipes, 800mm in diameter, between Lartington  Water Treatment Works and Shildon via Whorley Hill.

We’re taking the pipeline across the River Tees at two locations. At Cotherstone, we have constructed a tunnel that will run 20m under the river bed and, at Alwent Beck, we’re building a pipe bridge.

Pipelaying progresses on Phase 1 of this project, as Northumbrian Water continues preparing for Phase 2, with the ultimate benefit of protecting and improving water supplies for around 200,000 customers across the south of County Durham and into the Tees Valley.
