Rotherhithe Primary School wins prestigious RIBA London award

13.05.2024

Congratulations to Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and our client Southwark Council on the news that Rotherhithe Primary School has won a prestigious RIBA London award. We were the main contractors delivering this exciting project.

The RIBA has handed London regional awards to 40 projects chosen from a 76-strong shortlist.

To be eligible for an RIBA award, projects have to have been in use for at least a year. All projects were visited by a jury.

The winners will now be in the running for a RIBA National Award in recognition of their architectural excellence. These will be announced in the summer with six of these then going on to make up the shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize for the best building of the year. The Stirling winner will be announced in October.

This scheme is imagined as ‘a school in a garden’, conceptually extending and capturing the green space and openness of Southwark Park into the school site, creating a stimulating and protected outdoor environment for the children.

The construction project included a 3,600m2 school building replacement for Rotherhithe Primary School. It now accommodates up to 630 pupils as well as a 60-place integrated nursery. The school was constructed on the existing playgrounds of the active Rotherhithe Primary School.
