Farrans focused on sustainability as laptops are donated to seven organisations

At Farrans, we know that creating a circular economy is crucial to a sustainable future.

This month we have worked with Camara Education Ltd. to donate 200 laptops for reuse in schools in Africa.

Camara Education is a charity that provides computers, teacher training and innovative learning programmes to schools across Africa.

In Ireland Farrans, working in partnership with Irish Water and Cork City Council, commenced work on three large strategic water supply upgrade projects earlier this year, which will safeguard the water supply to Cork City.

These three projects will provide security of drinking water supply, reduce leakage, increase capacity and enable further growth and development of the city. They will also result in improved energy efficiency across the city’s water treatment plants and networks.

Having received a kind donation of a number of refurbished laptops from Farrans IT department, the project team has distributed them among five worthy organisations and educational institutions in the vicinity of our works.

The five chosen are:

• Field of Dreams – which meets the ongoing learning needs of adults with Down syndrome across Cork City & County.
• Cork Life Centre: Cork Life Centre – a voluntary organisation offering an alternative learning environment to marginalized young people.
• Good Shepherd North Mall – which empowers vulnerable women and children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and break the cycle of homelessness through generations.
• Strawberry Hill National School
• Blarney Street CBS

We appreciate the fine work done by these recipients and acknowledge how extremely valuable their work is. We believe that it is right to assist them and hope that donations like this will remove the digital divide, increase information and communication technology skills along with helping young people access more computer technology, continue their education and study for their exams

At our Gull Wing project in Suffolk, our Community Business Partner Eddie Burton visited Pakefield School in Lowesoft to donate latops and explore ways that Farrans can work with the school while this important bridge is being constructed.
