Farrans scoops two awards at the Scottish Civil Engineering Awards

22.09.2023

Farrans has picked up two Scottish Civil Engineering Awards for engineering excellence in the built environment in Scotland on Friday 22nd September 2023.

Edinburgh Trams to Newhaven, which was delivered in a JV with Sacyr as SFN for the City of Edinburgh Council, won the Infrastructure Award for Transport, while our East Quay development project at the Port of Nigg for Global Energy Group won the Infrastructure Award for Marine.

Both project teams were in attendance at the awards lunch at The Caves in Edinburgh where 20 of the top schemes in the country, which were completed in the last year, were acknowledged on the short list.

Passenger services on Edinburgh’s new tram line to Newhaven were launched on 7th June 2023. As part of a joint venture, Sacyr, Farrans and Neopul (SFN) delivered the Main Infrastructure & Systems Contract. The 2.9 mile, eight stop route, which had been under construction since November 2019, was delivered on schedule.

The Port of Nigg unveiled its new East Quay in July 2022, which, at 225m long and 50m wide, increases the leading port facility’s deep water quayside capacity to over 1,200m – placing it amongst the largest in the country.

Marine construction works for the East Quay commenced in April 2021, in the midst of the pandemic, with Farrans delivering the quay on schedule and on budget.

The opening of the new quay is a game changer for the Port of Nigg, enabling it to service multiple large scale Energy sector projects simultaneously and ensuring the port facility has the required infrastructure in place to accommodate the demands for future floating offshore wind sector opportunities.
