Farrans cycle 100 miles for Bike Week 100

9.06.2023

2023 marks the 100th annual Bike Week – the UK’s cycling awareness week. This year, we are celebrating workplace cycling, and encouraging as many people as possible to choose the bike instead of the car for their commute.

We have become an affiliate member of Cycling UK and are supporting their Challenge 100 Campaign during 5 -11 June 2023.

Today we wish good luck to four of Farrans experienced cyclists who will be cycling 100 miles together as part of Challenge 100. Trish White (Divisional Commercial Manager), Brian McCool (Contracts Manager), Gerard Gilroy (Building Services Lead) and Chris Adair (Contracts Manager). Geordie Miller will be driving the support car.

The team will be taking on a 100-mile round trip starting at our NI Water project offices in Dunmurry. They will reach our Irish Water project offices in Monaghan for a quick rest and then back to Dunmurry clocking up just over 100 miles each.

Meanwhile, many people across all our regions have been taking on their own cycling challenges by opting for the bike over the car for their commute.

Steve Coates, Project Manager on Northumbrian Waters’ Tees Valley Pipeline project has been taking advantage of the better weather, cycling his local route of 36km. Steve’s message to anyone considering taking up cycling: “You should definitely buy a bike. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I’ve been cycling for 7 years, the health benefits are fantastic.”

We encourage all employees to make use of the Cycle to Work Scheme and look forward to seeing more of our people reap the benefits to health, finances, and the environment that cycling brings.

During the week we will also be supporting two cycling charities; The Adsum Foundation and Wheels for All.
